Multi-Ethnic FAQs

WHY IS THIS NEW MOVE TO A MULTI-ETHNIC CONGREGATION SUCH AN EMPHASIS RIGHT NOW?
We believe this is God’s direction for us. We live in a global society now and in a community where minority populations are expanding. We’re called to reach these people groups. We want to create a warm, inclusive environment where the entire family of God has a place they can call home.
IS THIS JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF BEING POLITICALLY CORRECT?
Not at all. We are responding to God’s heart and mind. God has made us aware that deeply rooted patterns of segregation and prejudice affect us all. Politics or political correctness have no real answers for these problems. God, through his church, does.
WHAT IS GOD’S ANSWER?
We can love God with all our heart, mind and strength and we can love our neighbor as we love ourselves. If we truly love our neighbor, we will cross Multi-ethnic and socio-economic lines.
IS THIS JUST ABOUT GETTING ALONG?
We think it’s much more than that. As theologian Willie Jennings said recently, we need to imagine our lives “defined by and with each other – especially those who are not like us racially.” That is a reality we believe for which our community is looking.
WHERE IS KCC IN THIS JOURNEY RIGHT NOW?
We are at the beginning of a long, focused process. We need help to get where we need to be. We don’t have this all figured out and we know that it will be challenging and we will make mistakes. But we are committed over the long haul in growing to a level of understanding that will enable us to connect with and be a more accurate reflection of our multi-ethnic community.
